What are Luxury Vinyl Tiles?

Luxury Vinyl Tiles, also known as LVT, is a product that mimics the look of real wood or stone but is made up of a series of layers, flexible and thin enough to cut through with a knife. This highly durable product is a great way to add warmth to your home, like carpet but with the practicalities of a tile.

Based on its 5Gi and 2G click systems, LVT flooring is an easy option for the avid DIYer or those on a tighter budget as you can easily install it yourself.

Our installation guide for vinyl tiles gives you a comprehensive overview of the benefits for both vinyl click flooring and glue stick options as well how to prepare your substrate before fitting.

For a thorough breakdown of the different types of LVT flooring, check out our Knowledge Base article to learn more about what LVT flooring is and how it can work in your space.

Why LVT flooring is a good option for your kitchen

For kitchens, you need to choose a practical flooring option to suit how you use the room, if you don’t want to stretch to real tiles, the advantages of LVT kitchen flooring over laminate and real wood flooring are:

  • - Durability
  • - Sound insulating
  • - Versatility
  • - Easy maintenance
  • - Budget friendly

What LVT flooring is made of depends on the type you choose however, LVT wood flooring is more durable than real wood, they still offer the texture and grain detailing of the real thing but don’t scratch or wear as easily. LVT kitchen flooring works best in a contemporary home, here’s a couple of our favourite ways to style it.

Cosy Scandi

black accents

This gorgeous vinyl tile gives a beautiful light wood effect. The distinct graining of the Wykeham tile makes it a contemporary option, perfect for an open plan living space. Pair it with crisp whites and natural materials like greenery and wooden accents.

We chose to style this look with lots of light surfaces but warmed it up with hints of nature such as wooden table legs, lush greenery, and logs by the fire. Modernise and ground the look with minimal but dramatic punches of matt black.

The futuristic hanging lamps above the dining table pair well with a sleek log burner. Then to build into the open living space feel, we have chosen to opt for black outdoor chairs to further tie in the seamless living feel this large open plan area evokes.

Classic Neutrals

calming tones

This look is our most versatile, the bones of the look are classic neutrals and varied tones of the Meranti tile give it the feel of a cosy hideaway. Mix it with light linens, soft cotton and crisp white walls in the summer or choose lush velvets, patterned prints, and eclectic accessories for a wintery feel.

We love interiors that can evolve with us through the years, whether it be through the seasons or just the trends we are loving at the time. Prints can be swapped from playful pastels to cosy and autumnal neutrals.

This look is possible by choosing a neutral canvas, the Mercia tile creates the perfect foundation. It works with so many different colour palettes and complements any type of space with its bold textured grain.

Herringbone LVT

Herringbone LVT

Versatile wood flooring allows you to create a seamless flow throughout your home as it can be used in any room, however a herringbone floor texture can only be created from specific LVT herringbone flooring as the tiles are designed to slot together rather than grouted like traditional tiles.

What is a herringbone pattern? Herringbone is a laying pattern that creates a chevron design. This LVT flooring pattern often mimics original parquet flooring and most common in wood style flooring however it has become popular in tiled splashbacks too.

We have four options available in a set herringbone pattern, Carrick Oak, Whinfell Light Oak, Parkhurst Grey and Marston Grey, both a glue down LVT.

Bathroom ideas using LVT

Bathroom LVT works well as they are slip resistant and can be used in conjunction with underfloor heating, ensuring your bathroom floor stays toasty and comfortable all year round.

Here we show you five bathroom flooring ideas which utilise LVT bathroom flooring. For even more inspiration, explore our guide to bathroom vinyl flooring ideas.

The New Neutrals

warm neutrals

Meranti Walnut taps into the darker and warmer trend for a neutral scheme. The wood panelling plays with the height of the bathroom whilst the bold grain of the wood effect LVT draws your eye along the room creating depth.

Take advantage of a larger space with a big free-standing bathroom and built in sink unit. Lighting is key in a big bathroom, wall lights and floor lamps will create a cosy ambience, whilst window shutters provide classy looking privacy.

Marble Opulence

subtle veining

Create a luxurious marble effect bathroom with our Thassos Marble tile which has a much softer veining effect, providing the opulence of marble without the upkeep.

Build in modern aspects like a matt black tap and fluted glass cabinets or brass fixtures and darker tones on the wall. For a more traditional take on marble, mix it with rich wood tones and a luxurious free-standing tub. Marble is such a versatile yet timeless choice.

Playful Pastels

A contemporary stone effect like Himalayan means you can play with other features in the room as it provides a blank canvas to work from. Create a classically feeling space with wall panelling but then modernise it in a fun pastel hue like mint green.

Moody Hues

dark drama

A black toned tile will create instant drama, especially in a smaller bathroom. Keep it luxe by adding in other textures like deep pile bathmats, velvet accessories and fluffy warm toned towels. Brass or gold fixtures contrasted with streamlined glass will add to the sense of luxury.

Industrial Chic

Polished concrete

Ketton Concrete offers an industrial polished feel and is perfect for a wet room style bathroom, allowing you to efficiently maximise the space. This brown toned grey LVT flooring works well with a clean matt wall tile like Hartley or Linear, tie wall and floor together by using a complementary grout colour like Brooklyn Grey or Ash for your wall tiles.
