The New Tonal Colour Blocking

As seen on the recent catwalks, colour blocking is still a major trend for both fashion and interiors but this season the look has been updated. The desired look now uses only one colour in the spectrum with various different shades of that tone coming together to create a harmonious look.

Stop this aesthetic looking boring and flat by adding different textures into the mix. Layering different finishes is also a great way to make some products look more expensive and luxurious than they actually are; a great example of this is bathroom towels, mixing different weights and patterns immediately creates the perception of luxury.

This trend is a great way to introduce colour into the home. Mix and match paint, leathers, ceramics and fabrics all in the same room to create texture and depth. To make a room look bigger always choose a darker tone for a large piece of furniture, such as a sofa, and then mix in lighter tones for armchairs and tables etc.

The look doesn't always have to be so dramatic with top to bottom colour. Create a subtle ombré effect with paint to gradually blend the colour; this technique will also help make your room look taller if the colour gradually gets lighter towards the ceiling. Add in some different textured fabrics within that colour palette and enjoy a calm, tranquil space; ideal for a bedroom.

For bathrooms, create more of a statement with a patterned tile like Brixton. A monochrome scheme helps keep the look classic whilst adding a dimension of fun with a bold pattern. Then layer up this look with a matt paint, glossy wall tiles and bold coloured accessories.

So be as bold as you dare this coming season and experiment with different tile finishes and lay patterns to create interest and depth within your space. This trend really needs to be planned so create a Pinterest board and start adding your favourite colours and accessories before you make any rash purchases!
