Learn How To Style A Wet Room

Hotel style shower rooms or wet rooms are a great way to add a touch of luxury to your home. As well as being easy to maintain, the clean, uncluttered design makes the most of the available space, opening up the room making it appear larger and lighter. But what's the best way to incorporate such a contemporary concept into your home to suit your taste and personality?

Start by sizing up your space, those with a more compact area might prefer a completely open shower room to make the most of the available space. Slightly larger rooms will be able to incorporate a screen and can be easily zoned for your needs.

A wet room doesn't have to mean a beige box with a shower in the middle, experiment with different lay patterns, colours and materials. If you want high end opulence then the aesthetic of marble is a great option, however the natural material is a lot of upkeep in a wet room as marble doesn't like moisture and can stain over time. Using a marble-effect porcelain tile however eliminates this issue; try our Legato or Albus tiles to replicate white marble. Alternatively try a plain wall tile and a more interesting patterned tile on the floor to really brighten the space, choose a pattern that you love and decorate the rest of the room around the tones within the pattern, a light blue pattern works well with more industrial fixtures like concrete or pewter.

Wet rooms don't have to look tile heavy, opt for a wood-effect tile with anti-slip properties like our Dartrey and Tabula ranges; they replicate the look of wood but have all the practicalities of porcelain. Wood-effect tiles can also be used in conjunction with underfloor heating so your new wet room will stay warm and cosy all year round.

Think carefully about your fixtures, it’s worth investing in good quality pieces that you love so you enjoy using your wet room. If you’re going for a muted scheme then amp up the drama with a metallic free standing bath or add a touch of luxury with a free standing double sink if you have a larger space. For those with a small space (and not afraid of a little cleaning) choose an opulent mirrored unit with a marble wall and really lighten up a dark room.
