When tiling onto walls consideration must be given to weight of the tiles, always check that the background you’re tiling onto can take the weight of your tiles, plus adhesive and grout. Our store teams will be happy to confirm the weight of the tiles so you can confirm suitability. Please remember to include 3kg per m² in your calculation to allow for the weight of the adhesive and grout.
Below is a guide to the maximum weight permitted for the wall substrate.
| WALL SUBSTRATES | MAXIMUM WEIGHT OF TILING PER M² |
|---|---|
| GYPSUM PLASTER | 20KG/M² |
| GYPSUM PLASTERBOARD DIRECT (WITHOUT A PLASTER SKIM) | 32KG/M² |
| FOAM-CORED TILE BACKING BOARD – (Wedi) | Max weight loading 120KG/M² |
| FIBRE CEMENT BACKER BOARD - (HardieBacker) | Max weight loading 200KG/M² |
| GYPSUM FIBRE BOARDS | APPROXIMATELY 35-40KG/M² |
