Terrazzo tiles are the perfect way to add a splash of colour and individuality to your home. Not only are they stylish, but they are practical and durable making them a perfect option for virtually all spaces.

In this guide, we outline several ways in which you can use our terrazzo style tiles to decorate your home. Our terrazzo style tiles are porcelain and expertly mimic the look and feel of real terrazzo but at a lower cost. So, whether you are looking for industrial or Mediterranean inspiration, here are some of our favourite ways to use terrazzo tiles to elevate your bathroom, kitchen, living room, and outdoor space.

What is terrazzo?

Terrazzo is a composite material that consists of various chips of marble, quartz, granite and glass set into cement.

While it has its roots in ancient Egyptian mosaics, terrazzo as we know it today originated in Italy over 500 years ago. Terrazzo (Italian for ‘terrace’) was developed by construction workers who bound together the chips of waste marble they were left with. Nowadays, we know terrazzo as a highly versatile material which is used to decorate a vast range of spaces and places.

Industrial living

Terrazzo is the perfect addition to your industrial inspired interior. Bring elements of city living into your home with an earth toned terrazzo effect tile. Its natural shade and rich detailing of inconsistent chips in its pattern can be paired with pewter metal accents. Beautiful gunmetal taps, mismatched with a brassy showerhead, prevent the bathroom from feeling clinically industrial and manages to be true to the design whilst adding interest. Add other metal accents and explore the polar opposite like a matt grey or black basin ensuring a less ‘shiny’ space. Keep the rest of the space neutral to reinforce the grungy industrial fundamentals that give the metals a stage to shine on.

Calming creative

We adore this look. Calm and creative all in one. Our Briks Charcoal Terrazzo tile creates a full and fresh look filling the shower walls and the bespoke sink unit.

To create this modern terrazzo bathroom, we have used this subtle terrazzo effect tile vertically to beautifully elongate the space, sitting alongside a marble wet room tray to build upon the serene natural aesthetic. To finish the look, we drew upon the peaceful nature of these tiles and paired them with fun white and green fixings to ensure the bathroom space feels refined and clean. For accessories, we recommend opting for muted colours and natural elements to tie this modern terrazzo bathroom look together.

Popping with pink

To create a playful bathroom that oozes with style, opt for our Briks Cotto Terrazzo tile.

In this terrazzo bathroom idea, we tiled the wall halfway using the Briks Cotto tile and painted the rest of the wall with a muted blush pink to let the orange toned tiles pop. The terrazzo-style tile and muted walls complement each other beautifully.

For a balanced look, we have picked out the whites of the terrazzo and paired them with a white square bathroom tile. To enhance this terrazzo bathroom idea, we have used a contrasting grout colour to exaggerate the base colour of the tile and to bring out the tones spotted in the terrazzo. For the final touches in this bathroom look, we have added natural accents in the accessories and fixtures.

Terrazzo kitchen ideas

Terrazzo style kitchen tiles are extremely practical as they are hardwearing and easy to wipe down. Here’s a couple of ideas on how you can style our terrazzo kitchen tiles.

Slick scullery

Blue is still at the top of the trend alerts and it’s not going anywhere. Guess what? It works perfectly with terrazzo!

Paired with a polished terrazzo tile, the look is elegant and sophisticated, fulfilling all your kitchen dreams. We love to pair and earthy coloured tile with a bold shade like Matrix’s Heritage Blue tile. To create a more dynamic space to allow your creative cooking juices to flow, you could also try Dulux’s Oxford Blue to emphasise the blue addition.

Pair with elegant accessories to fulfil the opulent look or use some ceramic jugs from H&M Home to mix it up and add an authentic edge to your kitchen.

Elegant neutrals

When it comes to neutrals, go big or go home. This stunning XL tile, Crisp, has a playfully exaggerated terrazzo finish with beautifully warm neutral chips of colour. Complete the look with various different tones of wood, matt black accents and plenty of greenery for a contemporary finish.

When paired with a matching grout colour, the extra large proportions of this tile allow for a more seamless flow of pattern making it feel even more realistic.
