In the words of Miranda Priestly: Florals? For spring? Ground breaking. So we've looked at how florals can transcend seasons and become timeless to avoid the spring cliché and create a worthwhile investment in your home.

The term ‘florals' is an overarching theme in both fashion and interiors but can be broken down into many different types; for example Chinoiserie is a Western take on Chinese florals and differs greatly from traditional Chinese tapestry. Depending on your style and colour palette there are plenty of floral variations to suit both vintage and contemporary tastes.

On the Spring/Summer 17 catwalks we saw plenty of bright pops of florals in bold prints, some with a folky twist on a neutral coloured base; a trend perfectly transferable to modern interiors. If you favour a more calming colour palette in your living space then place a few key accessories like a throw or cushion to add colour and texture to a plainer interior.

Take the trend one step further and invest in a high-end piece of furniture that can work in the corner of a room to bring a neutral scheme together. A floral armchair can be the perfect addition to your living room, just make sure to complement the base color with a few key accessories to help blend the statement piece into space.

For exaggerated florals, bring the outdoors in with large scale wallpaper in bold jungle prints; a banana leaf mixed with tropical flowers creates the ideal balance between modernity and florals.
Floral Furniture
For transitional styles, mixing a darker base colour like charcoal, black or a deep navy with pops of pinks, greens and blues adds a sense of drama and texture without looking too summery. William Morris designs are perfect for this look, deep and moody; the patterns are lifelike and extraordinary and create a real statement. If you need something a little sturdier than fabric and wallpaper look to tiles, the Minton Hollins range embodies the Arts and Crafts movement whilst providing the practicalities of a ceramic wall tile.

To balance the look of old and new choose an off-white tile like Wild Blossom and create a statement wall to mimic wallpaper. When mixed with a wood-effect floor tile the look is instantly updated and can work with both traditional and modern fixtures. The Autumn/Winter shows confirm that florals are here to stay so make the investment now and enjoy pops of colour whatever the season.
