If you’re looking for a quick fix for your shower storage, then look no further than a hook-on shower caddy. Or for something more permanent, if you don’t have a shower suitable for a hook-on, you can drill into your tile to fix one into the corner of your shower. Search for a simple ‘how to install corner shelves in a tiled shower’ to get the best results. For a guide on drilling into tiles read over our simple to use Knowledge Base.
However, if it’s going to be a long-term solution in your favourite shower then we’d suggest investing a little time and effort into creating something bespoke and of course beautiful. Not to mention something a lot easier to clean and keep in tip top condition! We’ve pulled together some inspiration for built in tile shower shelves so you can get inspired for that bathroom renovation.
Built In Tile Shower Shelves
Marble always adds a classic touch of luxury to a space, but it can be a little bit overwhelming when used en masse. Here the bathtub and shelving are finished in the same marble tile which adds texture and interest to a simple wall tile.
Because marble means luxury, opt for a more expensive good quality wall tile, this ivory subway tile from the Minton Hollins collection adds an olde-worlde touch and the warmth of the Espresso marble softens the expanse of neutral colour. The off-white and coffee tones make the bathroom feel less clinical than if traditional white was used. You can use this inspiration for tile shelves in the shower or over your bathtub, either way, deck it out with lovely brown glass bottles or fluffy towels.

If you don’t have the ability to build in your storage, then an external shelf fixed onto your tiles looks great too. The best option is to use a slab of natural stone (remembering to reinforce your wall before tiling!) this is because you can keep it sealed and it won’t rust over time.
We love the clean white marble paired with a flash of green in this enclosed shower cubicle. A bevelled tile from the Minton Hollins range will provide a classic look which will work well with brass, gold, or nickel shower fixtures. But, if you’re looking for a more budget conscious option, try the Metro Forest Green tile, or if you’re not into the bevelled style, try Wilderness Green from the Matrix Collection for that bold green fix.
A monochromatic colour scheme will offer a timeless feel, brought alive with touches of polished gold in the fixings. Play with proportion here by using a large hexagon on the wall, like Palma White, and then a smaller hexagon mosaic within the tiled shower shelves. Although the tiles are the same colour and blend harmoniously, the change in size will draw the eye and create a subtle feature. For a graphic finish, use a contrasting grout which will emphasise the hexagon’s shape.
Finish off the look with a black floor tile, if you’re opting for a wet room then make sure it’s slip resistant. We love the rustic finish of Quarry to contrast in texture to the highly polished hardware of the shower.

Exaggerate your shower shelves by using capping or border tiles, highlighting the shape of the alcove, it feels quite 1920s when done with a classic subway tile and thin accent colour like this one from Reece Homes. Alternatively, create stepped shelves with mosaics wrapped around, opt for a muted tone with a contrasting white grout for a retro feel like this example from Willow. And finally, theme your space by using a particular colour palette and complementary pattern. We love the vibe of this one from American brand Fireclay Tile.
Whatever your style, built in shower shelves can help transform a small space into an oasis of calm and serenity to be enjoyed every day. Shop our wall tiles now to get designing your own storage solution.
