Blue has always been a staple in our interiors, and in recent years, it has become a firm favourite in homes across the country. If you are looking to incorporate colour into your home, using blue tiles is a great way to do so.

Our Lampas Marine tiles are a dark blue teal glossy tile that exude boldness and charm. These tiles can elevate any space, adding that much desired ‘wow’ factor to your interiors.

To help you make the most of our Lampas Marine tile, we asked our Tile Consultant, Harriet Goodacre, to share her styling tips and ideas for our beautiful
Lampas™ Marine tile. If you are in need of inspiration for blue kitchen and bathroom tile ideas, keep reading!

Not only is blue currently on trend (have you seen our Tile of the Year for 2022?) but it’s also an incredibly versatile colour, in terms of setting as well as style. Its versatility means that it works with pretty much any colour and can be dressed up or down depending on your taste.

Blue is also great for changing the perception of a room because it has a short
wavelength. By having a short wavelength, blue tiles can make a space appear longer and wider, particularly if you use the same colour all over.

For me, I think that blue works best when it is paired with complementary, tonal colours rather than stark contrasting shades as these can often feel cold and uninviting when paired with a blue tone.

How to Style the Lampas Marine Tile

The Lampas™ Marine tile has a lovely glossy finish but this can make it a little tricky to style. Its glossy finish makes it reactive to the light and can look completely different in certain conditions, such as artificial lighting or a north facing room for example.

What Colour Grout Should you use for Blue Tiles?

In my opinion, blue tiles work best when they are paired with complementary and tonal colours. For this reason, I would recommend that you use blue tiles with a grey grout. However, as with all interior design choices, the decision ultimately depends on your personal preference.

Blue Kitchen Tile Ideas

When it comes to blue kitchen tile ideas, I would match a glossy blue kitchen tile, like the Lampas Marine tile, with matt surfaces, such as the kitchen units, worktops and the flooring to give it a timeless feel. To keep the look warm, I  would choose a terrazzo kitchen floor tile with a darker, brown tinge to its base, like Suburbia™ Natural and then work with these shades in the rest of the room. I would pair blue kitchen tiles with a dusky grey shade on the kitchen units as this will create a sense of flow and allow kitchen to feel spacious whilst complementing the blue kitchen tiles.

When using blue kitchen tiles, like the Lampas Marine Tile, it is important to keep the look minimal, to allow the tiles to do the talking. Use a simple brick laying pattern and pair the blue kitchen tiles with a tonal dark grey grout like Ash or Graphite.

For furnishings, I would opt for a modern luxury finish. To achieve the look I would use fluted glass, pared back woods and antiqued gold fixtures to add a touch of elegance to the kitchen space.

Blue Bathroom Tile Ideas

When it comes to using blue tiles in your bathroom, you have the freedom to be more playful.  If you are considering using blue bathroom tiles to create a feature wall, go for a herringbone laying pattern and a contrasting coloured grout, Praline or Powdered Rose work really well.

A dark wood effect on the floor will bring the look together whilst adding that touch of warmth and matt texture. If you are going for a contemporary touch, try matt  black fixtures and a Crittal-inspired shower frame. However, as these elements are all quite dark, opt for clean and streamlined accessories and carefully consider how you light the space to create the right mood for the room.
