You know what they say about first impressions, and your home’s entrance hall is the first thing your guests will see when they step over the threshold. Thinking of entrance hall ideas can be difficult, particularly if yours is on the small side. But there are lots of ways you can give the same love and attention to the space as you would with any other room in your home.

We’ve brought together some of the best hallway ideas including practical storage solutions and decorating tips, so you can make the most of your space to create a great first impression of your home.

Entrance Hall Ideas

Choose Durable And Stylish Flooring

Hallways are high-traffic areas and when it comes to flooring, you need something durable. There are lots of hallway tile ideas to choose from depending on your style and aesthetic. Wood effect tiles or luxury vinyl flooring are highly practical if you want to incorporate wooden flooring into your design. Unlike real wood, tiles and luxury vinyl flooring are incredibly easy to maintain and will be able to withstand the constant flow of traffic without worrying about scuffs or marks.

For a more traditional interior, Victorian floor tiles can help you recreate the classic look. If you have a period home with lots of traditional hallway features, classic monochrome tiles can be the way to go. In this design, we've used a mixture of Victorian Flooring's Newbury tiles with a complementary border tile and then added a touch of luxe with thinner marble edging.

Alternatively, if you have a modern home, patterned floor tiles can be used to create a statement whilst still retaining those decorative elements common with Victorian flooring. Our Berkeley Essence tile takes inspiration from the Georgian period with a more modern twist.

Include Storage Solutions

Incorporating storage in your hallway is a must, particularly if your home is on the smaller side. By including storage and strategically utilising the space, you'll be able to create a functional, yet welcoming entrance to your home. A simple console table will do but for a more discrete storage option, you could consider a storage bench which doubles as a seat or a coat rail with built-in shelving for additional bits and pieces.

Create A Statement Wall

Large pieces of artwork may be unsuitable for smaller hallways, however, there are still ways you can take a plain wall and turn it into something eye-catching. You can easily recreate the look of slat wood panelling with our wood wall panels. Available in a range of wood tones including almond, cashew, hazel oak and silver birch, these panels can help to create a sense of height, space and flow.

Include Seating

If your space allows, seating can be a useful addition to your hallway and a great way to add some personality and style to the space. It's also helpful to have a comfy spot to sit down and lace up yours (or the kids) shoes! However, the size of the chair should be appropriate for the size of the space. For narrow hallways, opting for a storage bench will give you the seating option that provides practical solutions for storing shoes and outerwear below.

Maximise Light

To increase light in your hallway, opt for a light colour scheme as this can help to create the illusion of light by helping to reflect the light that does enter the space. Similarly, including practical elements such as mirrors and gloss tiles can help to enhance the sense of brightness and space in the hallway. Our Matrix tile is available in gloss and it's a great way to add a splash of colour to any space.

If you have taller ceilings, adding a pendant light can be a nice eye-catching feature that greets you through the door. Alternatively, wall sconces are a good idea to add a warm glow if your floor and ceiling space is limited.
