You’ve laid beautiful-looking flooring, now keep it looking that way with our quick and simple advice on how to clean laminate flooring. Here are our top tips for cleaning laminate flooring:

  1. Ensure that you read the cleaning instructions that come along with your laminate flooring. As brands sometimes have specific instructions for how to treat their flooring.

  2. To avoid damaging your flooring, only use products made specifically for laminate, and if still in doubt, carry out a small test patch first on an inconspicuous section of flooring.

  3. Clean up spills as quickly as possible, this can be difficult with children but in the best interest of your flooring, not letting any liquids or stains sit on it is best.

  4. Sweep your laminate flooring regularly to keep it free from dirt and dust, but also to stop little bits of grit from accumulating that could scratch and therefore damage your floor.

  5. Vacuuming is fine, as long as you use a hard-floor attachment.

  6. Use soft tools when cleaning laminate, as it can be easily scratched using sponges. Soft bristle brushes help you effectively clean the surface without damaging it.

  7. Microfibre dry mops are also great for cleaning laminate due to their soft but highly effective surface.

  8. Make sure the water you use is clean and warm, and add a special detergent specifically made for laminate flooring. This will leave your floor with a protective film that’s very resistant to wear and dirt and will give your floor a gloss-effect finish. It’s also key to ensure the floor isn’t overly wet.

  9. Cleaning products with an oil base can leave streaks. They can even damage the protective seal of the laminate and therefore best avoided.

  10. Make sure to protect your laminate flooring when you can, with mats, rugs and even furniture pads under chair legs to prevent scratching.
