Our range of porcelain splashbacks are made from 6mm thick fabricated porcelain slabs, specifically cut to size with a micro bevelled edge finish. These stunning single splashback panels are available in a variety of designs, sizes and finishes to complement your kitchen redesign. In this guide, we show you how simple it is to transform your kitchen in a weekend by fitting a porcelain splashback panel.
As the porcelain splashbacks have been nano sealed during production, further sealing is not required before you install your new splashback panel.
However, you should acclimatise the splashback prior to installation to allow the adhesive tape to warm up to +10°C, this ensures it will bond correctly to the substrate.
If you have a gas hob, you'll also need to ensure that the hob is installed correctly to prevent direct contact (or close proximity) between the flame and the splashback, a distance of 100mm from the face of the splashback is considered as safe.
The first step is to prep your wall behind the hob, it should be smooth, clean and free from any cracked plaster, large holes, paper tears and grease. If you're planning to cover an existing tile, we'd recommend removing them first and making the wall good again before application, however you can tile over existing tiles but they must be securely attached to the wall.
Carefully measure and mark the correct position for the porcelain splashback on the wall. Remember to leave a 2mm gap around the perimeter as the splashback will expand and contract with the changes in temperature.
Make sure to hold the splashback up to the wall before fixing to ensure you're happy with the position aesthetically.
Apply a clear, neutral (cure low modulus) silicone adhesive, like CT1, to the rear of the panel and remove the covering paper from the adhesive tape.
(Avoid using acetoxy or acetic curing adhesives as they can become visible once the adhesive is fully cured.)
Carefully position the panel in place and use masking tape around the edges to temporarily secure it in place whilst the adhesive cures.
If the splashback is sitting on top of a worktop then you can apply a thin line of sealant along the back of the worktop where it meets the wall to seal any gaps.
If it's not already supported, then use a timber batten to support the splashback whilst the adhesive is curing. Otherwise, it could fall off the wall.
Finally, once the adhesive has fully cured, remove the masking tape and apply a thin bead of kitchen suitable silicone sealant along all of the exposed edges to seal it.
We recommend cleaning your porcelain splashback with FILA's Multi Surface Cleaner, it will help protect the surface from any build-up of dirt and grime. You should never use an abrasive cleaner or material when cleaning the splashback and avoid the use of chemical cleaners, bleaches or detergents containing chlorine or any of its derivatives.
