Provinical Chintz Trend

We wouldn’t say minimalism is dead, however, we have certainly seen the rise of maximalism over the last few seasons and as it begins to refine itself and evolve to the needs of our homes, we can see that an eclectic interior is certainly in favour.

We’ve seen restaurants and hotels embrace their heritage and tap into the warmth and comfort that olde-world, vintage, and rustic aesthetics provides us, creating a more homely escape from the busy world.

Clashing printed fabric, bold but humble colour palettes and the vintage charm of knick-knacks have brought a fun colourfulness back into our interiors. We’ve narrowed down this maximalist attitude to a key aesthetic, Provincial Chintz, focusing on chintz florals, rustic French design, and crafted accessories.

We’ve created a stunning colour palette of complementary warm shades with help from our partners Dulux to help encapsulate this trend.

The Colour Edit

A vintage twist on the classic French colours of red, white, and blue, these deeper soulful colours bring the Provincial Chintz trend to life. Soft reds like Cherry Chocolate, duck egg blues and Sapphire Salute’s rich navy are the corner stones of the aesthetic. Warm neutrals like Iced Frappe and Cosy Cashmere modernise the look.

We’d pair these colours with handcrafted tile edges, muted toned pattern and natural wood grains, here is a selection of our favourite looks and how to style the Provincial Chintz trend.

The Tile Edit

Here’s four ways we’d style the Provincial Chintz trend.

Tonal Blues

The backbone of this look is the shade of white but what brings it to life is the exciting mixture of blue tones. The bold fridge, very similar to our palette’s Coastal Breeze, the darker navy of Diamante Blue in the splashback and of course, the eclectic mix within Berkeley Essence Sky tiled in the pantry cupboard.

The white kitchen keeps the look modern and minimal with the Mora Oak floor providing the warmth amongst the dominant white and blue. The parquet floor is a clever nod to our French twist given that parquet was invented by the French in the 16th Century.

Pretty In Pink

When you first think of pink it doesn’t necessarily translate as being warm and cosy but pick the right shades and you can easily balance the line of neutral, warm, and comforting. Our Catania Violet tile is not too dissimilar to Raspberry Diva in our colour palette. In this kitchen we’ve made this a feature colour, painting the units in another tone of pink to create a harmonious flow around the L-shape. Kanzi is laid vertically on the floor to create depth into the room from the hallway, its natural wood tone blends with the pink on the walls.

Following the trend’s theme, we’ve modernised the look with the sleek white chairs at the dining table and mixed in a warm dark neutral with the light fitting, inspired by Cherry Chocolate.

Chic Bistro

The olde-worlde pattern of Amberley Orchid is the perfect pattern if you’re not overly keen on intricate Chintz florals. Its large format makes it feel more vintage, along with its muted colours. Play with that duck egg blue, worn charcoal and soft white and use them in painted furniture and contrasting fabric prints to create your eclectic mix. Pull it back into the 21st Century with sleek beechwood furniture like this clean structured dining table. We love the combination of stripes and florals over breakfast.

Handcrafted Elegance

Although this stunning shade of Ochre isn’t in our trend colour palette, the Zellica range has the perfect balance of rustic, glossy goodness that we had to include. It works brilliantly for the provincial and aged aesthetic of the trend. This particular shade would work well with Cherry Chocolate and hints of Coastal Breeze around the room.

Modernise the look with clear glassware and lighting, antiqued brass fixtures and sleek white sanitary ware. For an eye catching look, mix your metals, like here with the taps and door handles, it is subtle but adds interest.
