Our summer travel inspiration series continues this month with the beautiful Aarhus. 2017's European Capital of Culture provides the perfect combination of Nordic nostalgia and color-pop art.

Probably best known for the “ Your rainbow panorama” circular walkway installation at the ARoS Aarhus Art Musuem, an Instagram classic, you're able to see the whole city in a bold color. And the city doesn't stop there for amazing museums, head 10km south of the city to the Moesgaard Museum to admire the building alone!

Bring the look home with bright accessories in a neutral toned space and create bold structure with tiles like Swave and Touchline to mimic the angular shapes of the modern Danish architecture.

 If you're a fan of the more traditional aesthetic then grab a drink at St Pauls Apothek. The decorative ceiling moulds and original features are smartly juxtaposed with dark wood, metro tiles and contemporary copper pendants; the moody lighting adding a little drama to your cocktail.

Just a train ride away, you can step back in time and visit Aarhus through history at Den Gamle By, an open air museum. The reconstructed streets showcase a time gone by with buildings from around 1500 up until the 1970s! It's a great way to see the origins of the Danish culture and design aesthetic.

In 2010, a 175-year-old ceramic company decided to open up a restaurant to better show off their stunning pottery. Dine in contemporary Scandi style whilst admiring your plate as much as the food at the elegant salon Kähler Spisesalon, open seven days a week it makes the perfect spot for brunch. Quench your thirst for amazing design with a quick trip to Paustian; be warned you won't be able to fit their beautiful furniture in your suitcase! And if grey is your favourite shade then the somewhat controversial Aarhus Rådhus is worth a visit. Completed in 1942, the architect Arne Jacobsen was a pioneer of Danish Modernism.

While you're exploring the old part of town, head to the city's prettiest street Møllestien with its cobblestones, pastel-coloured cottages and climbing roses. Bring a piece of Møllestien's charm back home with pretty pastels like our Diamante Pastels and Wild Blossom ranges.
