Garden design can be a little daunting, especially if you’re not overly green fingered, but we’re here to help! Starting from the foundations up we explore the best patio options and of course how to make them summer ready with a little styling fun. So, sit back, have a read and get inspired for the summer months ahead.

The Patio

There’s an outdoor tile to suit everyone’s taste, whether you want a country cottage escape or a sleek modernist landscape. The aesthetic of the tile is important but it’s also how it’s laid. Our Everscape range of outdoor slabs not only look great but their 2cm depth offer versatility in laying so you can place them on gravel, grass, cement and even pedestals depending on your needs. We’ll explore aspects of styling outdoor spaces to help you start your garden renovation!

The Garden Furniture

Pink garden furniture is having a moment and we’re all for a pop of colour in the garden to contrast against a neutral patio and of course luscious green planting. Here’s three of our favourite ways to style pink garden furniture to create different themes depending on your style.

Ibiza Brights

Bring the fun and colourful side of Ibiza into your back garden with bright pops of primary colour against a neutral backdrop. The cobalt blue contrasts with the neutral white wall for an exotic feel whilst the added pop of bright pink seating adds a playful touch. Contrast the brights with slouchy neutral furniture like this amazing bean bag sofa and some Mediterranean inspired planting (we love a good olive tree!) For a finishing flourish, why not bring in that rustic, aged side with a large, distressed mirror, it’s handy for making a smaller garden feel brighter.

So, what’s the ideal patio slab choice for an Ibiza inspired look? Ideally you want a floor tile that blends nicely with the wall colour for a seamless effect, this will allow the colours to take centre stage. Sedimentary rocks are typically found on the island so a tile that mimics limestone or sandstone, like Everscape Valletta Beige, is great for an authentic look.

Rustic Moroccan

Create a calming sanctuary inspired by the luxury Riads of Morocco, inject some colour with a patterned tile and use these colours to inspire the rest of the scheme. The Geomantic Gracia tile has muted tones of khaki green, duck egg blue and gold and for this look we’ve brought these to life with a beautiful blue render, a warm toned ivory tile and a pink toned terracotta dining set. Create a feature with the decorative tile like the ornate fountains of Marrakesh and surround it with the relaxing neutrals of large outdoor slabs and large-scale planting.

Brighton Beach

Tap into the classic British seaside with a side of Brighton’s cool vibes, this sleek bistro set is perfect for small courtyards decked out with natural wood tones, more exotic beachy planting and lots of neutral, natural textures like rattan and wood. Opt for a painted rendered wall with climbing plants for the classic beachside effect, alternatively, go full on exotic with potted palm trees in glossy glazed pots.

Everscape Planks are slip resistant making them much safer than traditional wood decking all year round. Renting? Not a problem, install them on our pedestal system and you can take them with you when you move!

The Tablescape

Outdoor Tablescapes

If you love a dramatic dining setting but you’re missing the backdrop of a quaint Caribbean Island, then look no further than outdoor tablescapes. As they’re outside they can be as big and as bold as you want them to be as they’re unlikely to overwhelm the airy outdoors!

Typically, with an outdoor tablescape there are a few design routes you can take. The first is bold floral arrangements, they don’t necessarily have to match your colour palette, they could be variegated but they need to be full blooms and ideally sitting at a higher level, so in a tall vase, jug or pot, so they leave space for the rest of the accessories.

The second is your colour palette, you want it to be coordinated and harmonious with the surroundings, but it can also be themed, like nautical or Moroccan.

Finally, remember that if your dinner party is going on later in the evening then you’ll need adequate lighting which works seamlessly into the scheme, think storm lanterns, chunky candles or festoon lighting overhead.

The Finishing Touches

A lot of outdoor furniture can be neutral and often a little bland as it serves a practical function, but as with anywhere in the home, you can redress it to suit your own style, the season or for a specific event, using some key, well-placed accessories. A couple of our favourite, more dramatic options are rugs and cushions.

Outdoor Rugs

Similar to your living room, a rug is a great way to bring a scheme together, but outdoor door rugs also have the added convenience of comfort too. Just make sure it’s definitely suitable for outdoor use and ideally machine washable, Ruggable have some great designs that feel practical but trendy!

Outdoor Sofa Cushions

Customising your outdoor sofa is a great way to add a unique spin on your outdoor space, if you’ve got a sewing machine then they’re pretty easy to make yourself out of outdoor-friendly fabric. Alternatively, if you’ve got lighter cushion covers you could dye them, you’d just need to check the fabric composition. If you’re not quite at that level of crafting, why not try blankets and scatter cushions instead!
