Influencer Elena Sandor, also known as @eat.wear.travel, is a source of inspiration many of us find ourselves enjoying. We found out some of Elena's hints and tips to renovating a bathroom and of course her journey from the first tile sample to the maintenance of her beautiful brand new bathroom. Over to Elena!

Renovating a bathroom is hard work, especially when the initial design of it is chaotic and quite difficult to build around. Our main bathroom had unnecessary boxes concealing pipes, so we had to raise the floor and hide them underneath, as well as build a drywall to cover the toilet cistern and the sink pipes.

We didn’t start with a really big room, and we made it even smaller, but at least the look and feel of it was clean and flowing. After extensive research on the tiles market, we chose Topps Tiles as our main supplier because of their amazing range of options, the quality of the products and also the flawless customer service.

To brighten up the small room, we went with white marble floors and walls, but in different textures. For the wall, we chose Serac Honed Stone marble tiles, which are honed matte finish dense marble with a luxurious feel. We didn’t install them all the way up to the ceiling, just high enough to open up the space more and not make it feel crowded.

For floors, we went with hexagonal floor tiles which are absolutely beautiful and I love the different textures of the hexagons. Each of them has a mixed finish, either polished, sandblasted or scored to create an edgy tactile effect. These tiles are really contemporary and are a huge part of why I love this style so much.

To preserve the longevity of our marble tiles, we applied a special protecting sealer on top, and we’ll keep reapplying every year. This will make them resistant to stains, heat and vapors.

Above the sink, we wanted an accent wall that was in the same colour scheme of white and grey, but in a different pattern. We went with Sharme Humbug Tile as the unique mixture of pearlescent and matte herringbone finishes emulates a mother of pearl look and feel. The shine is not as obvious, but it still creates a really beautiful, subtle feature wall.

Another tip in choosing the tiles for your bathroom is to buy lots of samples and put them together. This way you can see if they match, if you like the textures, and if they work in the space you have.

We had such a pleasant customer experience in the Topps Tiles store as we chose the materials we needed for our bathroom. All the staff were professional, really well trained and helpful in suggesting the right materials. We want to renovate the cloakroom now, so we’ll definitely be using Topps Tiles again!
