Perhaps once seen as a little old fashioned, the advancement of technology and more fashion-led tiles available means it’s never been easier to create an interesting tiled space with a contemporary border tile.

Using border tiles is a great way to bring colour into your room’s scheme, especially if you’re an advocate of a neutral colour palette. Choose a plain coloured tile and then pick a tonal border giving the room depth and warmth without jarring the eye. For a contemporary look choose tiles from the same range with a similar texture, like Touchline™, this will keep the look clean and minimalist. Build up accents of colour with your accessories; a pretty tea towel or a herb planter can really pull the look together and create a harmonious space.

When creating an industrial inspired space it can look a little cold with just concrete and metal. A great way to warm up and add character is with a rustic wood. For darker palettes a stained wood will create a more luxurious and expensive aesthetic. Tiling a wet room? Try a wood-effect tile to break up your tiled space creating interest and the illusion of a larger room.

Border tiles are not just for the wall. Adding a border tile around the edge of the floor lends a nod to traditional elegance. Originally seen in parquet flooring, the use of a tile running in parallel to the wall helps draw the eye down a room, great for making a short hallway seem longer. Get a little creative with laying patterns and create borders in between a large format tile like Sculpt™; the polished Nayara™ tile adds a touch of luxury to a neutral concrete-effect tile.
