Welcome to the new working kitchen, it’s all there over one, aesthetically pleasing, wall. This new style of kitchen helps to open up even the smallest of spaces, allowing a flow around the room for other activities, entertaining and of course eating. The idea is to create a mix of levels across one single wall to create an interesting design in a style of your choosing. Think floor to ceiling pantry units, sleek wall cupboards and of course open shelving. Although the design is aesthetically pleasing it should remain practical, housing everything you need in an easy to reach place to make cooking fun.
In this blog, we show you some cool ideas for different styles of the ‘one wall kitchen’ and how to integrate this look into your own space. And of course, we’ll share some colour and tile ideas to help complete the design!

Bringing colour and texture into a simplified design is key to adding interest, particularly in a kitchen when it’s essentially made of different blocks stuck together! We love this rustic design showcased on Hunker, the premise of the look is vintage with an earthy mustard shade on the units, contrasting with the aged oak units but it’s the design elements that add a touch of modernity. The kitchen itself is a shaker style, so very sleek and contemporary and the cabinet has reeded glass. The look is then lifted with light coloured tiles and sink. The tiles have a rustic, opalescent finish to them but again modernised by being laid in a vertical laying pattern and used to adorn the shelf edges.
The look is then finished off with grey concrete effect tiles which helps blend the black worktop into the scheme. The display shelves help balance the heavy storage cabinet, and although it’s a glass door unit, the reeded glass blurs the contents allowing it to be more practical and not just for show. Recreate the look with Cadence Pearl on the walls, Inara Concrete on the floor and a Brushed Gold by Dulux Heritage for the cupboard doors.

Neutrals have never gone out of style; however, they’ve certainly had a warm-toned uplift in the last couple of years. We first saw this movement begin when blush pink became classed as a neutral and it’s gone on from there.
This sleek pared back space is a design delight with its rich sage green units in a matt finish, nicely contrasted with the warm toned gold hardware. The storage here takes centre stage as the marble used is nearly stark white with few veins. The element of a clean wood pulls this look together, the single shelf on the wall for a sleek finish to the splashback and we’d put Pronto’s Whinfell herringbone LVT on the floor to complete the room.

Here, the dark walnut wood grain adds an earthy touch to an otherwise decorative marble kitchen. The deep rich tones help balance the larger white tiles on both the wall and floor. The elements of green within the seating not only adds to the natural feel by its tone but the corduroy fabric adds that all-important layer of texture.
The little details here make the difference, the open shelving is decorated in neutral accessories to tie in with the white, reducing the block like feel of the marble. The curved element in the accessories, tap and the lighting help mirror the table, creating a cohesive scheme. Keep to a neutral, warm toned white on the other walls (and ceiling) and this lovely space will feel light and airy all year round.

Mirroring is another great way to add harmony to a space with limited features. In this boldly coloured kitchen, the focal cabinet is the same colour as the tiled splashback, Dulux’s Bright Skies, whilst the texture of the tile is mirrored in the slatted wood cabinetry. Wall cabinets have often been stripped out because they darken a kitchen but, in this example, the sleek straight lines of the units matched in the tile help create height, whilst the warm toned blue has a lightness to it.
Achieve the look of the wood slats with Skandi’s Slat Decor in Oak, Flute Bright Skies Decor is the centre piece to this kitchen, and you can adorn the walls with Dulux’s Treasured Coral. To ground the look, opt for an earthy stone effect on the floor, we love this concrete island work top too!
