With so many tile options out there, knowing which tile colour combinations you should choose can be hard. Tiles are a great way to inject some texture and character into your rooms and there are lots of fantastic options out there.

Whether you are after a classic monochrome or relaxing neutral, or perhaps you are feeling more daring and want to experiment with bold contrasts, we have you covered here at Topps Tiles.

In this guide, we'll be sharing some of our favourite tile colour combinations, as well as giving you some tips on how you can mix the perfect colours in your home.

Minimalist Monochrome

Monochrome is certainly a classic and there's a reason for that. Monochrome interiors work perfectly in spaces of any size as the white in the design helps to bounce light around the room making the space feel larger. The black accents help to refine the look for an air of sophistication and class. Monochrome tile combinations are simplistic to work with and a great way to make a statement if you are after a more minimalist look.

You can easily achieve the monochrome look with our classic Matrix tiles. Whether you are after a high-impact gloss tile or want a more muted matt surface, our Matrix tiles come in a range of finishes and shapes to help you bring your monochrome design to life.

Bold Contrasts

Bold contrasts are a great way to inject some colour into your kitchen or bathroom. Mixing brightly coloured tiles is a great way to achieve a maximalist look in your home.

The options are endless when it comes to bold contrasts and different combinations can denote different interior styles. Some colours that work particularly well together, both for contemporary and retro interiors, are red and pink, lemon yellow and red, terracotta and pink, and green and blue.

A good tip is to limit your colour palette across the room, like this example of Matrix Ocean Teal Gloss tile paired with the contrasting Matrix Orange Gloss tile, the unit colour matches the tile to create a flow of colour. It's a great way to create a colourful kitchen. If you want to balance the look then pair it with a white with the correct undertone.

Pretty Pastels

If you want to create a contrast but you're looking for something more subtle, then pastel tiles could be the way to go. Much like their bolder alternatives, pastel colour combinations can work beautifully in any space.

For a classic country kitchen, shades of pastel green and pastel yellow work beautifully when paired with brass and wooden accents.

Alternatively, combining multiple shades of pastel in a bathroom is a great way to brighten the space whilst still injecting some colour into your design. We love the combination of our Matrix tile in sky blue, blossom pink, spring mint and primrose yellow. Installed in a block herringbone laying pattern, these colours work great together to make a retro statement.

Deep Greens With Black

Green is an incredibly versatile colour to work with and decorating with green works well in any space. With so many options to choose from our favourite has to be deep green paired with black. This colour combination works well to create a moody and sophisticated look, making it ideal for bathrooms and small cloakrooms.

For an extra level of decadence, we have paired our glossy Forest Metro tile with a deep toned marble effect tile. This pairing helps to elevate the space whilst providing a simple contrast with the deep green of the metro tile. This look can be finished off with gold or brass hardware for that extra wow factor.

Coastal Blues and Bright Whites

Pairing blues and whites is a great way to create a relaxing and inviting space. From rich, vibrant cobalt, to pale, calming pastels, there are lots of ways you can decorate with blue.

This coastal colour combination of blue and white is a great option for both bathrooms and kitchens alike. For a more Mediterranean feel, vivid cobalt blue is the way to go. Pairing cobalt blue and white with splashes of yellows and rich oranges through accessories and art is the perfect way to evoke that feeling of being on a summer holiday in Greece. Alternatively, soft, paler blues like our Flute decor tile in the colour Bright Skies is a great way to capture the rugged cornish coastline in your home. Playful Patterns With Pastels

Patterned tiles are a great feature to add to your home, particularly if you are trying to achieve a Victorian-inspired entrance hall with Victorian-style flooring or a Victorian bathroom.

For a modern, playful design, consider paring colourful Victorian flooring with a pastel shade of your choice. Our favourites to mix are mint green, blush pink and soft grey which can be used alone or mixed into one design.

Classic Neutrals

Classic neutrals such as whites, creams, beiges and greys are a timeless option for kitchens, with the appeal of beige seeing a resurgence in bathrooms too.

Off-white tones such as bone and pebble beige are a great option here, particularly when mixed with white and darker monochrome colours, the beige really pops.

How to lay different tile colour combinations

Once you have your tile colour combinations decided on, you'll need to think about how you want to lay them. There are lots of options here which can really help to transform your space.

Separate your room with different tile colours

Using different tile colours in different sections of your room or creating an accent wall can help to create a flow and purpose in your space. For example, if you are tiling your bathroom, reserve one tile colour for your bath and shower area. Or if you have an open-plan kitchen and dining space, use one style of tile for the kitchen and another for the dining area.

Tile halfway up the wall with each tile

Half-tiled walls are certainly nothing new but we've recently seen a resurgence in their popularity and they are a great way to mix up colours through your tiles.

Instead of only half-tiling each wall and painting the top half, you should try using two tile colours to create the same effect. Our favourite way to do this is with warm neutrals, but it also looks effective with bold contrasting colours too.

Create a contrasting backsplash

Bathroom and kitchen splashbacks are not only practical but they can also add an extra level of interest to your space. When using different tile colour combinations, reserve one of your tile options for use as a sink or countertop backsplash. Check out our guide for more kitchen backsplash inspiration. Experiment with different laying patterns

Tiles are an incredibly versatile feature to add to your home. As well as combining different tile colour combinations, try playing with different tile laying patterns to accentuate their effect.

For example, if you like traditional horizontal brick bond, why not try a verticle brick bond to give the illusion of added height? Alternatively, if you are mixing two tile colours, the block herringbone pattern is a great way to make a graphic statement.
