How thick should floor tiles be?

Share

The thickness of a tile is dependent on the material it is made of and the manufacturing process. However, the thickness of a tile doesn't indicate its suitability as a floor tile.

It’s important to know the thickness of your floor tiles as they will add height to your existing floor. You should also take into consideration any levelling product and the adhesive bed as well as your tile thickness to ensure a smooth transition between different flooring types and any impact on the opening of any door into your tiled space.

How thick should wall tiles be?

A tile designed specifically for the wall is often thinner than floor tiles as less durability is required. Typically wall tiles range from 6mm to 10mm in thickness.

When considering the use of a tile trim, you need to take into account the thickness of the tile but also the depth of your adhesive bed. For example, if your tile is 8mm thick then you should purchase a 10mm wide trim.

The thicknesses of our tiles are listed in centimetres and can be found in the product description tab on each of our product pages.
