How To Fit: 2G Click Luxury Vinyl Tiles

Share

The 2G click system is one of the easiest ways to fit Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT), making it a great option for DIY projects. In our Pronto range, you’ll find both 2G and 5Gi click systems, and while they look similar, the method of fitting them is slightly different. This guide will walk you through the 2G click fitting method.

Before you get started, make sure your tiles are ready for the room they’ll be laid in. Leave the unopened packs stacked flat for at least 48 hours with space around them for air to circulate. This acclimatisation stage helps the tiles settle and reduces the chance of movement once installed.

Another benefit of 2G click LVT is that every plank comes with an integrated underlay. This removes the need to fit one separately and makes the installation quicker and easier, as long as your subfloor is clean, level and dry.

How to check which click system you have

To make sure you’re following the correct instructions, check the product page for your selected flooring on our website or the label on the box, where the click system is always listed.

If your Luxury Vinyl Tiles contain the 5Gi click system, check out our How to Fit 5Gi Click LVT guide.

Fitting 2G Click LVT

This fitting technique is suitable for the following Pronto LVT ranges:

Wykeham Grey | Rivington Brown | Rosenholm Grey | Ingleton Brown | Krahn Brown | Galloway Grey | Glenmore Grey | Brighstone Grey | Gimrock Grey | Winspit Grey | Stanhope Grey | Ennerdale Brown | Epping Brown | Haldon Brown | Arden Grey

Before getting started, make sure you leave an expansion gap around the edge of the room.

For most installations this should be 6 millimetres, but if the floor is being fitted over underfloor heating, increase the gap to 10 millimetres. This space allows the floor to expand and contract naturally with changes in temperature. Spacer wedges are the easiest way to keep the gap consistent.

As with any LVT fitting, you may notice slight variation in the appearance of individual planks. For the most even and natural finish, open several packs at a time and mix the planks as you lay them so the pattern and colour are well balanced across the whole floor.

Step One: Lay the first row

Place the first tile or plank in the corner of the room and using suitable LVT spacers, keep a consistent 6mm expansion gap between both the length and width of the tile or plank and the wall. To fit the next tile or plank, angle the short edge into the first plank and lower it until it clicks into place.

Continue in the same way until the first row is complete.

Step Two: Begin the next row
When starting the second row, where possible use an offcut from the previous row, if possible, to and ensure to stagger the joints. The off cut should be at least 30cm long for a tile or 40cm for a plank. Angle the long edge of the new piece into the row before it, push it into the open seam and then drop lock it down into place, locking them together.
Step Three: Connect the rows

To complete the second row, lift the front edge of the previous tile or plank by approximately 1-2cm. This creates the angle needed to slot the short edge of the new tile into the seam and click together. Gently tap the tile or plank to align the long edges, lower both tiles or planks flat, ensuring the long edges are sat in the seams of the previous row, so they lock into place.

Step Four: Complete the rows

Continue these steps on all other rows until the flooring is complete.

Door bars and scotias

Scotias are used to cover the expansion gap along walls and around any fixed furniture, keeping the floor looking neat while allowing it to move as needed. Always secure them to the wall or skirting, not directly to the LVT. Install door bars where rooms meet to hide exposed edges, give a clean join, and help protect the floor from wear.

We'd recommend the following door bars and scotias to aesthetically fit with each range:
