How to replace a broken floor tile

Share
Once fitted, if a floor tile presents a crack, we’d always recommend replacing the whole broken tile to ensure it is safe. For this very reason we recommend keeping any spare tiles from your tile installation so you have replacement floor tiles from the same batch.

A tradesperson can assist you with this task however, if you need to do it yourself here’s a quick guide on how to replace broken floor tiles.

  1. Remove the existing grout from around the broken tile, a grout saw will help with this.

  2. Crack the tile with a hammer and cold chisel and then remove the old adhesive that was underneath the broken tile with a chisel or putty knife.

  3. Reapply the correct type of adhesive to the substrate and back butter your new tile and press firmly in place (read our tiling guides to learn the correct technique).

  4. Lastly grout the clean joints and leave to dry for 24 hours.

The same process can be applied to broken wall tiles. Please visit your local store, or contact our customer support team for advice in finding replacement tiles.
