What Are Chevron Tiles?

Parquet flooring has been in out of fashion for centuries. Originating in 16th century France, artisans created opulent designs by laying blocks of wood in geometric patterns, varying in size and colour. The term parquet comes from the French term ‘parquetry’ translating as ‘small compartment’.

These elaborate designs were seen everywhere, including the Palace of Versailles. Like tiles, parquet flooring can be laid in many different patterns to achieve the look you want. The most common types being herringbone, chevron, and finger parquet in a basket weave pattern.

We’ve now replicated these lavish feeling wood floors into a practical porcelain tile to create the ultimate range of chevron tiles that stand the test of time.

So what’s the difference between a chevron tile and a herringbone? Simple, a chevron tile is actually cut to shape and slots together at an angle. Herringbone utilises a rectangular tile and is overlapped at the top edges in different directions to create a point. You can achieve a herringbone with pretty much any rectangular tile however, a chevron needs to be specifically chosen.

We’ve created a unique chevron floor tile, Elevo Chevron, it expertly replicates real wood using the latest relief reader technology, this means what you see perfectly aligns with what you can touch so the printed grain looks and feels as realistic as the real material.

The Elevo range typically offers a modern look with its size of plank, for something a little more retro, the Mora Mosaic offers a chevron take on finger parquet. It can be used en masse, as a border or simply as a feature with the coordinating plank tile.

As these tiles are made of porcelain they make great chevron bathroom tiles as they are easy to maintain and can be used in conjunction with underfloor heating. But in this blog post we want to show you how to dress up your living room with a chevron tile with the help of ufurnish.com's excellent choice of stylish living room furniture.

Classic meets Industrial

Classic Industrial

Add character to a new build by going darker on the walls with a contrasting set of sofas ala @carasuthers over on Instagram. The industrial touches nicely balance the more traditional style couches and shutters. For something a little more feminine try adding a pink velvet sofa.

High Proportions

Create a little drama within stark Georgian proportions by painting the wood a dark shade, this brown shade from Dulux Heritage works particularly well as it’s not too warm toned. Dress it up with tall linen curtains, marble topped tables and dramatic pendant lighting.

Bright & Airy

Whether you have good proportions in your living room or are working with a more compact space, going for simplistic furniture with hints of pattern is a great way to open up a room and keep it feeling airy. Opt for a warmer blue on the wall and contrast it with fun accessories, we particularly like this bright blue boucle chair for a touch of colour.
