Grey is a staple colour in so many of our interiors. Varying from charcoal to light grey and everything in between. A popular colour choice in both modern and more rustic design, grey kitchens are a winner.
We are often asked what colour splashback to pair with a grey kitchen or which floor tiles to choose. With a base of grey, your colour palette is versatile and the options are truly endless. To inspire your kitchen creations, we have put together some different looks to help you on your journey of grey to hooray in kitchen design.
This simple sultry grey kitchen oozes class and style all at once. With no drastic colour schemes or committing trend pieces, this grey kitchen will stand the test of time. Choose a charcoal grey colour for the units, although any grey would suit. Pair with glossy white tiles on the walls in your chosen laying pattern. There is then the option of choosing a contrasting grout to add more striking definition into your splashback. Or stick to a light grout for a seamless and cohesive finish.
A wood effect tiled floor will add some warmth and a little texture to this monochromatic palette. Choose a warm wood as shown in this kitchen image, a light oak tile would achieve this look. We like a more ashy toned wood effect like this mocha tile, keeping a more cohesive shade throughout the space.
For further design aspects within the cabinets, go for fluted glass with black framing to showcase champagne glasses or ceramic black bowls. Add some low hanging lights above the island to give a spotlight feel, you could choose a wood effect light shade to tie in with the flooring and displayed bread boards.
This colour palette feels much lighter and brighter. Suitable for both a larger kitchen or one on the smaller side, ensuring the space still feels open and airy. In this look, our cabinets are a very light shade of grey and work well with metal accents as shown on the handles featured. Pairing beautifully with this pink terrazzo tile, the flecks of dark and light grey couple up effortlessly and add dimension to the space as well as a pop of colour.
We added in a glossy white tile that looks beautiful in a herringbone pattern, this option is great for a more minimal design. Or why not have the best of both worlds? Choose a more minimal white tile for the majority of your splashback and then create an eye catching feature with a brighter choice of tile!
So which colour floor tiles? For this design, keeping the floor tiles light works perfectly. Pair with a slightly darker grout (a mid grey tone) and large format tiles. The completed look is both modern and minimal while feeling fun and inviting!
Fancy a more country rustic kitchen? We have you covered. This look is a balance of modern country chic and farmhouse rustic living. Choose grey tiles as a splashback beneath this wooden beam and sunken stove. It adds a glossy aspect to the aesthetic and create some subtle contrast in the design style.
Choose a grey shade to cover the walls, this design aesthetic doesn’t require all tiled walls or crisp white paint. Therefore, you can choose the colour that will complement your home the most. For the floor tiles, a light natural tile will complete the look impeccably. Large format tiles will feel more traditional and classic but for a modern take, opt for mosaic tiles.
Finally, dress the space with natural materials, home made ceramics and silver accents. Your country rustic kitchen is complete!
There are so many options when it comes to using a base colour such as grey in the kitchen. Whether you create something minimal and classic or more playful with pastels and pops of colour, the looks are endless!
