The porch and hallway of your home is not only what you see every day as you come home but also the first experience of your personal space for your guests. It can often be an awkward space to transform so we’ve put together some key porch tile flooring ideas to help.
We’ve split our top porch tile ideas into three types, patterned tiles, wood effect and beautiful natural stone to explore all options for any style of home.
We’re kicking off our front porch tile design ideas with classic pattern, whether you have a Victorian cottage, a Georgian townhouse or a compact newbuild, you can create an interior style using pattern and colour to reflect not only the age of the property but also its personality.
For narrow spaces, a larger repeating pattern will help give the illusion of width and a great trick is to decorate the walls in similar tones, matching your skirting colour as close to the dominant colour in your tile, helping to create a more seamless finish. Your chosen pattern will also lead you to the type of accessories and finishing touches that will suit the room. For example, soft muted greens and greys work well with burnished brass and nickel. Berkeley Essence in Eden is one of our favourite patterns, the colourway works in both traditional and modern settings and can be used inside and out for an uninterrupted flow.
If you have a wider space, then a simple pattern will allow the room to breathe and not look cluttered. Favour the minimalist style? Then opt for a monochromatic scheme, both on the floor and the walls. For a traditional finish, paint half your wall in a dark hue and the top a lighter contrasting hue, this will make the room seem taller and grander. Our Victorian Flooring range includes the black and white Beckford tile, which is perfect for larger, open hallways, it can be used outside the porch too.
Wood is a traditional choice for an entryway but it’s not ideal for a porch and requires a lot of upkeep, using a tile alternative allows you to use a continuous tile from porch to your living space. This seamless finish not only looks clean, but it will also help make your entryway feel bigger.
The grain of wood effect offers texture and interest to a space whilst its tone offers warmth. You can also choose different laying patterns to help transform the feel of the space. For example, using a horizontal chevron or herringbone laying pattern will help give the appearance of a wider room, something usually needed in a hallway which is typically narrow.
No one does wood flooring better than the Parisians, be inspired by their beautifully opulent parquet flooring, we have two different ranges to suit your style. You can use any slimmer rectangular tile in a herringbone pattern to get the desired effect. However, Adalene is much grander, inspired by the ballroom of Versailles no less, the criss-cross design and oak hue add a traditional touch.
If you’re looking for something more contemporary, the Elevo range features the latest reader relief technology that perfectly syncs the grain you see with the one you touch making it our most realistic wood effect tile. Elevo Chevron is also cut into a perfect chevron making it easy to lay in the parquet style, its wider plank and modern tones make it a great choice for a newer property.
Another porch floor tile design idea is to utilise the unique beauty of natural stone. These hardy materials can be used inside and out to create a nice flow through your entryway and each piece holds a unique charm.
For a country or coastal cottage feel, opt for traditional black or multicolour slate tile such as Piscola, creating a lovely textured finish. If you’re worried about the upkeep, then you can always opt for a slate replica like Enis.
Limestone on the other hand works in any setting, modern, contemporary, or traditional. The Amazone range is cut into modular slabs like traditional flagstone. The beige shade lends itself to more rustic interiors and the grey contemporary, however it’s easy to dress them to create the vibe you want. For a worn aesthetic, chalky furniture paint is your best friend and for a cleaner aesthetic, matt black metal mixed with simple natural textures will keep the look fresh.
