Historically, tile trims have been seen as a functional requirement to help finish and protect the edge of your tiles from chipping. However, with products such as our range of Foundry Trims, we are now seeing tile trims as a way to enhance and even elevate tiling projects, injecting texture and colour into the space.

The Foundry trim helps to protect your tiling project, but it also adds an extra level of decadence and luxury to your design. But what makes the Foundry tile trim different and how can you incorporate them into your design? We'll explore this below.

What Are Foundry Tile Trims?

The Topps Tiles Foundry tile trims are a type of tile trim that has been crafted using solid brass which provides an authentic vintage look. Over time, through the process of oxidization, an organic-looking patina develops on the brass surface which continues to enhance the look for years to come.

The oxidization process can be slowed down by periodically applying a thin layer of the Topps Tiles Foundry Beeswax to reach the desired look.

What Foundry Tile Trim Finishes Are Available?

Oxide Foundry Tile Trim

Our Oxide Foundry Tile Trim is a vintage nickel colour. This trim pairs beautifully with all colours but works harmoniously with grey and black tiles for a more seamless finish helping to blend the edge between the wall and tile.

How To Style Foundry Tile Trims In Your Home

Dressing Up A Budget Tile

If you’ve opted for a wall covering that’s more on the budget side, you can dress the tile up and make it look more expensive by adding a Foundry trim. The Raw Foundry Tile Trim is shown here with our Matrix Diamond White Matt Tile. The squares have been tiled in a linear format for a graphic finish, whilst the praline-coloured grout helps tie in the golden tones of the Raw trim. The dark blue wall colour really makes the trim pop and makes the overall look more interesting than just a simple square white tile.

Skirting Around The Room

Tiled skirting is a must around Europe. It’s only really in the UK that we opt for wood skirting board to join the wall and floor.

There are plenty of reasons to choose a skirting made of tile; it creates a seamless look around the room between the wall and floor making the space look wider. Even when using a dark tile on a lighter-painted wall can create this illusion.

Using tiles rather than a wooden skirting board is a much more durable solution. Tiles are much easier to clean and, therefore require less maintenance to keep them looking pristine. In addition, they can be finished with a stylish trim like Foundry Tarnish in a straight edge profile making them seamless yet luxurious.

Blend The Edge Between The Tile And The Wall

Like traditional trims, Foundry can be coordinated with your chosen bathroom or kitchen splashback and blend seamlessly between the tile and wall paint.

The Oxide finish matches perfectly to a variety of greys; when it ages, it will look darker and more luxurious than a standard stainless steel trim.

Contrast With Bold White Marble

Investing in white marble tiles is a wise idea as it will work with a variety of bathroom and kitchen styles and will look just as good when you redecorate with a new colour; it goes with everything!

Finishing the tiles with a contrasting trim, such as the Tarnish Foundry tile trim helps to make a statement whilst adding a touch of luxury. Not only that but mixed metals are a timeless trend so you don’t have to worry if you’ve opted for a brushed chrome tap, you can still use a brass trim around the edge of your room.

How To Install A Foundry Tile Trim

Fitting a Foundry tile trim works in the same way as fitting any other kind of tile trim. To fit a Foundry tile trim, you will need several tools and accessories including tile adhesive, a hacksaw to cut your trim to the desired length and a mitre block to help you create a neat corner cut.

You'll need to begin by measuring and cutting your trim to the desired length using a mitre block and a hacksaw. Once you have the correct length of tile trim, you need to mix your adhesive and place it on the wall where you want to place your tile trim.

Next, press the tile trim into the adhesive allowing it to pass through the anchor holes. Then position the tile so it fits flush with the trim and repeat the process with the remaining tiles.
