Patterned tiles, with their cheerful, charming and exotic appeal, can add a sense of warmth and character to your kitchen or bathroom. However, incorporating them into your space can be a little bit daunting. For a bit of inspiration and to spark your creativity, here are some of our favourite patterned bathroom and kitchen tile ideas to enhance your home.

Patterned Tiles Ideas

Bold Heritage

Patterned tiles are often associated with a contemporary look, yet they can also be a great way to create a vintage-inspired atmosphere in a bathroom or kitchen.

To achieve a muted Victorian-style look, opt for patterned tiles in subtle, tonal colours for a sleek, modern finish. Alternatively, embrace bold heritage-look tiles for a result that wouldn’t be out of place in an architectural masterpiece! The use of large-scale prints in both types of tile helps open up small bathroom and kitchen spaces where tiny prints would otherwise create an overly busy, chaotic look.

In this look, we have used the Berkeley Charcoal tile on the bathroom floor to create a look that is a nod to both the Victorian era and contemporary living. For a clean look, we have complemented the tile with white wall panels and a large basin to ensure the room feels balanced.

Moroccan-Inspired

For a Moroccan-style bathroom or kitchen that’s right on-trend, introduce some exotic flair into your home with specially created Moroccan-inspired tiles.

In this look, we have used the Casablanca tile on both the shower wall and floor to create a space that oozes charm and character. On their own, these tiles could potentially overwhelm a space, yet we have balanced their impact by pairing them with wooden fixings and accessories. As these Moroccan-inspired tiles serve as a focal point, it’s essential to opt for surfaces and fixings that complement them rather than detract attention from the tiles.

Top tip: If you choose Moroccan-style or rustic-coloured tiles, opt for a grey-coloured grout for a more traditional look.

Statement Centrepiece

Given that patterned tiles can be a little more costly than plain tiles, why not achieve a similar look by using them to create a splashback in your kitchen or bathroom? Rather than tiling an entire wall, consider using patterned tiles to create a centrepiece above a sink, hob, or even around a fireplace.

For this look, we have used Grosvenor and its matching black and blue border tile to create a striking splashback surrounding a sink basin. When paired with a white wall and muted accessories, these patterned tiles create a stunning bathroom that is full of character and style.

Colourful Balance

Another way to incorporate patterned tiles in your bathroom or kitchen is to pair them with plain-coloured tiles in a complementary colour. To achieve this, we recommend picking out a detail in your bathroom or kitchen and basing your décor around this. This not only creates a sleek interior but helps open up a space, making it look more organised with a main focal point.

In this look, we have used the Henley Fog tile to create a rug-like focal point on the floor of a dining room and complemented it with grey toned Pronto luxury vinyl tiles. So attention is kept on the patterned tiles, we have accessorised the look using muted tones and vibrant royal blue chairs for a splash of colour.

Muted Accessories

It’s a good idea to let your bold, patterned tiles stand out by decorating the rest of your bathroom or kitchen with subtle or neutral colours. This will give a beautiful and harmonious finish, especially if you echo the themes of the tile in the rest of your décor, such as through the shapes or the style of decorative accessories. By following this approach, your tiles will blend seamlessly with the rest of the room rather than competing against it, creating a sense of flow and preventing the space from feeling cluttered.

In this design, we have used the Minton Hollins Chrysanthemum tiles in a kitchen. We have taken inspiration from the pink and blue pastel hues of the tiles and complemented them with blush pink cabinets and white surfaces. The muted yet complementary colours work together to create a kitchen that is visually appealing, yet not overwhelming.
