As soon as we close our front doors behind us, we want to escape into a world of comfort, quiet and serenity to recover from our day. We’ve explored bringing holidays home with us from boutique hotel inspired bedrooms and luxurious outdoor patios but are we putting the same effort into creating a relaxing bathroom experience? We look at some spa inspired bathrooms to spark some ideas to create the ultimate spa bathroom décor in your own home.

Spa Bathrooms

Typically, a spa bathroom is quite clinical and minimalist as it promotes hygiene in a commercial space, but the quiet clean lines promote a calmness that we want to replicate. For our homes we want to take this inspiration but add in some key layers to make it cosy and comfortable too.

Second is to introduce a touch of texture to elevate the space and provide a calming tactility.

Finally, bringing in a connection to nature will stop it from feeling too clinical. Some natural greenery will also promote more oxygen in the space adding to the sense of wellbeing.

Spa Style Bathroom Ideas

Calming Neutrals

Inspo: Third Coast Interiors.

When using neutrals, you really need to play with texture and shape to make the room interesting. This bathroom by Third Coast Interiors is the perfect example of how to layer texture within a neutral scheme. The scheme is beige. All beige. But look at the details, the wall tiles are rustic and textured, the floor tiles are a simple wood grain in a chevron pattern and then the whole space is softened using a circular motif, from mirrors to the bathtub. And what a bathtub it is!

Warming Terracotta

Inspo: Kelham Loft.

Think of hot sunny days and cooling off in an exotic outdoor shower! Terracotta embodies the warmth of the Mediterranean sun. It’s also a great way to add texture to your space given its rustic, natural finish. It pairs perfectly with beiges, off-whites, blush pink and various shades of green so it’s a versatile choice for any interior style. Personally, we love it with a pop of olive or forest green. Here we’ve used Kelham Loft in a warm crimson tone and the balanced the look with a plainer greige tile, Kapital, on the floor. If you’re wanting to make more of a statement on the floor, then try the Cotto range, we love the thinner rectangular style as a herringbone pattern.

Glossy Greens

Layering tones of green is always a winner, especially in a bathroom. The glossy finish of Zellica Forest Green will help bounce around the natural light, so it won’t feel too dark and overpowering. We also like the tone of the metal fixtures in this space, they’re a lighter and brighter champagne which helps lift the dramatic feature wall. We’d probably be a little more playful and deck out the rest of this compact en suite with a fun tile like Crisp Beige, the colourful terrazzo design adds interest but still has a neutral feel. Finish the look with clear glassware, soft linen lighting and sculptural greenery like eucalyptus.

Wood Panelling

A rustic cabin hideaway sounds like a great way to start every day, this wood panel shower exudes rustic charm. The mix of oak wood, black tile and metal with crisp linen all helps soften the sleek sanitary ware of the free-standing bathtub. Achieve the look with the Skandi Slat Decor in a warm toned oak. The thinner slatted design feels more contemporary and sleeker than a traditional cabin whilst still retaining the rustic charm of wood. Ground the look with black metal fixtures and a rustic stone effect tile on the floor, we love the moodiness of Staunton’s Graphite but the multi-coloured slate would also bring that cabin charm.

Coloured Marble

We know beige is back and it’s making its way into our natural stone choices too. Travertine and marble are favoured for their warm undertones, just make sure it feels sleek and glossy! This minimalist bathroom from Luxe Interiors + Design showcases how simple and pared back a scheme can be whilst still retaining a sense of warmth and comfort. The natural stone takes centre stage, but it’s harmonised with the wood tone, so it doesn’t become an overstatement. Its spa bathroom décor is complete with the use of a large, clean mirror to reflect all the natural light. We love how the wall sconces are set into the mirror for a completely clean finish. Recreate the majestic marble with Praetorian, alternatively if you’re on a tighter budget or just want something a little more practical in a wet environment then Roselle is a good alternative as a realistic travertine effect tile. To keep the clean aesthetic, we’d mirror the sink cabinets on the floor to create a seamless flow. Pronto’s Denya Walnut has a wide and longer LVT plank meaning fewer joints for that sleek finish.
