Autumn Home Inspiration

With autumn quietly making its presence known this month, we thought it was the perfect time to put together some interiors inspiration to help you make the most of this colourful and cosy season.

Here at Topps Tiles, we definitely don't need an excuse to decorate or update a room but the changing of the seasons is a fantastic time to transform a space and, in this case, make it a little more ‘homely' ready for the colder months ahead.

The beautiful colours autumn brings are, alone, enough inspiration to use as a starting point for your new cosy décor. We love the combinations of reds, browns, yellows and earthy tones which can look just as magical in your home as they do in nature. Think rustic wooden frames mixed with pretty prints or colourful patchwork blankets piled into a wicker basket, ready for you to pull out and wrap yourself in on a cold evening.

Cosy knits are a huge trend this season, as seen here in the Telegraph. Especially on-trend are big chunky knits which you'll find all over the high street in greys, creams and seasonal red shades. Try introducing a few new cushions or throws into your home and you'll soon notice the difference they make in bringing a room to life. You could even get creative and make your own. On YouTube you'll find tutorials on how to make cushions, knitting scarves and everything else in between.

Another of our favourite ways to embrace autumn in your home is to invite it in. Literally. Nothing beats a well-stacked pile of pine cones next to a fireplace or a decorative tree filled with fairy lights and leaves. Bringing the outdoors in is nothing new (we wrote a blog post about it here) but there's something about it that works especially well during this time of year.

Mixing textures is also another big trend we'll see during autumn and winter. Pulse London recently wrote about combining tactile materials such as a luxurious faux fur with detailed ceramics or mixing sleek and refined surfaces with textured accessories. The great thing about this season's trends is that they're all a bit mis-matched and ‘imperfect'. This means you can simply combine existing items in your home with a few new accessories if your budget is tight.

It's also important to not forget the small details such as lighting. Simple scented candles dotted around a fireplace or on a windowsill bring an unrivalled sense of warmth to a room. Team them with some fairy lights wrapped around a photo frame or mirror and you've got yourself one cosy room that will have you feeling snug in no time.
